Gillie Da Kid wasted no time in responding to Birdman’s remarks, asserting that the podcaster “ain’t like that.” This exchange wasn’t entirely unexpected among hip-hop enthusiasts, given Gillie’s history of critiquing Birdman’s business practices.
Although Gillie took a day to craft his response, he did so with palpable confidence and a steely determination in his voice. In a bold proclamation, he drew a stark comparison between himself and Birdman, boldly declaring that he had surpassed the label executive in stature.
Birdman, at the helm of one of hip-hop’s most legendary record labels, Cash Money Records, holds sway over the careers of heavyweights like Lil Wayne, Drake, and Nicki Minaj. However, his public image took a hit in recent years, chiefly due to his falling out with Lil Wayne, whom he affectionately refers to as his son. Wayne’s multi-million-dollar lawsuit against his former mentor severed their business ties.
Gillie Da Kid initially rose through the ranks while writing for Lil Wayne in the early Cash Money era. In recent times, he’s been vocal about his criticisms of Birdman’s business strategies. Now, Gillie contends that he stands taller than his former boss.
“I’m bigger than Baby. Ain’t that [wild]?” Gillie asserted during an Instagram Live session on Tuesday (October 10). “I generate more money than that nia right now. I don’t wanna hear this st. Motherfers counting me out and I’m f**king bigger than you,” he vented, clearly affected by Birdman’s comments about their shared history. “Shut up. Nobody give a f about you.”
Gillie Da Kid also pointed out that Birdman’s response came 25 years later, rendering it inconsequential in his eyes.
“Birdman waited so long to say something man, I can’t even respond when you say something 25 years later,” the podcaster quipped with a chuckle. “You only respond because you don’t hear the roar of the crowd no more… I done called you a bh a** ni for 25 years. 25 years later you respond… I see the way you treated a real ni***, rest in peace Killer Stone. You could’ve never treated me like that though. Talkin, ‘I ain’t like what.'”
During his Clubhouse discussion, Birdman also addressed Kanye West’s recently leaked video where he called Cardi B an industry plant meant to replace Nicki Minaj. Additionally, he touched on his estrangement from Rick Ross, revealing that they haven’t spoken in quite some time following Rozay’s critique of Birdman’s treatment of Lil Wayne.
