Drake has faced accusations of subtle misogyny in the past, but when confronted with the derogatory comments of hardcore misogynist Andrew Tate, he wasn’t about to let it slide. Tate, who faced legal troubles after being arrested for human trafficking in Romania last year, recently took aim at men from Canada on his podcast. Drake, understandably, took offense at having his masculinity questioned.
While Tate’s comments are consistently distasteful, this time they veered into outright rudeness and misinformation. He boldly claimed, “There are no real men in Canada,” insinuating that being Canadian somehow diminishes one’s masculinity. Drake, not one to back down, responded succinctly under the video with a simple, “Green light,” alluding to a figurative challenge.
Critics, including Azealia Banks, Joe Budden, and Pusha T, might dismiss this as mere posturing on Drake’s part. Yet, it’s worth considering Canada’s reputation for politeness, often overshadowing its darker historical moments. It’s important to note that while Canada may have a similar number of guns per capita as its southern neighbor, the murder rate is lower, thanks in part to its accessible healthcare system.
As for whether Drake genuinely holds the power to issue a “green light” on the podcaster, it seems unlikely, especially given the inclusion of a laughing emoji. Perhaps his recent collaborations, like recording with For All The Dogs and spending time with 21 Savage, have just imbued him with an extra dose of confidence.
