In a recent court hearing in Nevada, Judge Carli Kierny has set the bail for Tupac Shakur murder suspect Duane “Keefe D” Davis at $750,000. Keefe D is facing one count of murder with the use of a deadly weapon, with the intent to promote, further, or assist a criminal gang. Despite seeking a bail of no more than $100,000, Keefe D’s lawyers believe his family may be able to raise the funds to secure his release from jail.
If Keefe D is able to post bail, the judge has ruled that he will be placed under house arrest while awaiting trial. The court has also mandated a source hearing, requiring Keefe D to disclose where he obtained the funds for his bond.
Arrested in September 2023, Keefe D is accused of being the orchestrator behind Tupac’s 1996 murder in Las Vegas. While prosecutors assert that he wasn’t the triggerman, Keefe D allegedly confessed to his role in various interviews and a tell-all memoir. His lawyers argue that these statements were made for “entertainment purposes.”
Tupac Shakur, shot on September 7, 1996, died six days later. Keefe D, the sole surviving suspect in the case, pleaded not guilty to murder last year. His trial is scheduled to begin on June 3, and he has remained in the Clark County Detention Center since his arrest.
Originally slated for January 2, Keefe D’s bail hearing was postponed to allow his legal team time to respond to a filing by the prosecution.
