Rapper Kodak Black finds himself in another legal predicament in South Florida, as authorities have issued an arrest warrant alleging that he failed to attend a mandatory drug test, a condition of his bail in an ongoing drug case.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office recently issued a warrant stating that Bill Kapri, known professionally as Kodak Black, was absent from a scheduled drug test on June 9. Kapri was initially arrested in July of last year on charges related to oxycodone trafficking and possession of a controlled substance without a valid prescription. After posting a $75,000 bond, he was required to undergo regular drug testing as part of his release terms.
Scheduled to appear in court on Monday, the 26-year-old musician has had a tumultuous journey with drug-related issues. Earlier this year, court records revealed that Kapri was ordered to complete a 30-day drug rehabilitation program following a missed drug test in February, followed by a positive result for fentanyl several days later.
During a court hearing, the singer’s legal counsel raised the possibility of an error by a star-struck drug lab technician, suggesting that the sample or paperwork may have been mixed up. The technician who collected the sample admitted that such a mix-up was indeed a possibility. However, when the judge proposed a hair test as an alternative, the defense declined the suggestion. It’s worth noting that a hair test has a longer detection window of up to 90 days compared to the few days typically captured by urine and blood tests, which may have provided a more comprehensive assessment.
In January 2021, the rapper received a three-year federal prison sentence for falsifying documents related to the purchase of firearms. However, his sentence was commuted by then-President Donald Trump, granting him an early release after serving approximately half of his term. Throughout his career as Kodak Black, Kapri has achieved remarkable success, selling over 30 million singles and securing massive hits like “Super Gremlin,” which peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 charts last year.
