During an episode of The Skip Bayless Show hosted by sports personality Skip Bayless, he discussed his unsuccessful attempt to mediate and provide support to Ja Morant.
It appears that rapper Lil Wayne expressed his interest in mentoring Ja Morant. Skip Bayless, while acting as the intermediary, reached out to connect the two individuals. However, according to Skip, the co-host of the show Undisputed, the NBA star did not respond. In a clip from the episode, Skip Bayless shares, “[Lil Wayne] texted me,” Skip Bayless says in the episode clip below. “He said, ‘Hey, can you connect me with Ja because I could help him? I’ve been there, I’ve done all this. I wound up in prison, Riker’s Island. I know what happens, I know where you can go wrong and I know what’s right.’ I reached out to Ja. ‘Would you sit with Lil Wayne? Would you talk with Lil Wayne?’”
Skip further adds, “Wayne would fly to him. He’d fly to Memphis in a heartbeat tonight. Wayne would private-plane it and go right to Memphis if he thought he could save a career and a soul. I got nothing back from Ja. Didn’t expect anything back. In the end, I just hope Ja and Antonio don’t turn out to be one of those people you just can’t reach, you just can’t fix, you just can’t save.” Lil Wayne, a highly successful rapper with numerous platinum-selling albums, has a troubled past involving firearms, having nearly lost his life at the age of 12 when he accidentally shot himself in the chest. He has also faced multiple legal issues related to guns.
Ja Morant, on the other hand, has already faced NBA suspension this season for displaying a gun on social media, along with several other incidents. Currently, the Grizzlies have suspended him from all team activities due to his latest involvement with a gun on Instagram Live. It is anticipated that this time he will face a significant suspension, as his first punishment evidently failed to serve as a wake-up call.
The NBA community eagerly awaits Commissioner Adam Silver’s decision on the potential penalties for Morant. Undoubtedly, this will greatly disrupt the Grizzlies’ plans for the upcoming season. The team had a successful year, securing the second seed, but was eliminated in the first round by the Lakers.
