Snoop Dogg shared with Insider an unforgettable experience he had the pleasure of curating for the late DMX.
Following their dynamic face-off in a “Verzuz” battle in July 2020, Snoop, who collaborated on numerous tracks with DMX, extended his hospitality by preparing a feast for his esteemed colleague. The “Verzuz” series, initiated by Timbaland and Swizz Beatz in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, invited musicians to showcase their discographies in live Instagram broadcasts.
“I had an amazing time cooking for the late, great DMX,” Snoop Dogg recounted. As DMX poured his creative energy into recording, Snoop embarked on a culinary endeavor, conjuring up a grand spread for DMX and Swizz Beatz.
“I put together some short ribs, some rice, some gravy, some corn, and corn bread,” the rapper recalled. ” the rapper detailed. “And DMX and Swizz Beatz damn near ate the tray, they couldn’t believe how good it was.” But the cooking didn’t stop there.
“I had to cook for them for like three days in a row, and I was honored to do it and I was happy to do it,” Snoop Dogg added. “It made me feel good to know I was giving them nourishment and food to go and create a record. That was one of my highlights, to be able to cook for them and for them to enjoy it.”
Tragically, DMX passed away on April 9, 2021. Snoop Dogg paid a heartfelt tribute to his friend on “Today,” emphasizing DMX’s unwavering commitment to helping others.
“And that leads me to believe that’s why God chose this angel to come back home with him,” Snoop Dogg said. “He did what he was supposed to do. He influenced, he inspired, and he represented. So, DMX, his soul will live on and his music will live on as well.”
As for Snoop’s dream celebrity dinner, he expressed a desire to prepare a meal for the iconic Sade while collaborating in a recording studio.”I would love to cook for Sade while we’re in a studio working on a record,” he said. “Some cuisine shit, like filet mignon with Lobster Thermidor.”
