T.I., the acclaimed rapper and now stand-up comedian, recently took a humorous jab at the newer generation of trap rappers during his appearance on BET’s ComicView.
Known for his witty remarks and insightful commentary, T.I. delved into the evolving landscape of trap music, drawing comparisons between the pioneers of the genre and the emerging talents.
In his stand-up routine, T.I. humorously remarked, “You listen to the first generation of trap music, people like me, Jeezy, Yo Gotti, you know what I’m saying? We were rapping about things we had done, got away with, and moved on. You hear me? You listen to [this] new age trap music? Oh, they talkin’ bout shit they finna do tomorrow, you feel what I’m saying?”
This light-hearted critique mirrors sentiments T.I. has expressed in various interviews and podcasts, where he discussed his observations on the current state of hip-hop.
During a conversation with Shaquille O’Neal on his Big podcast, T.I. shared, “This generation reminds me of every other generation. You got some people who are exceptionally dope, and some people who are just alright. You know what I mean? But it’s a lot more of it to choose from now.”
Despite his own successful career in hip-hop and his children’s involvement in the industry, T.I. admitted that he initially wished for his kids to pursue different paths, such as real estate or professions in law, medicine, or engineering.
“I never really wanted them involved,” T.I. confessed. “I just know how much treachery, how much betrayal and how much of the dark side that exists in this, and I never wanted to expose them to that.”
He emphasized the importance of diversifying career choices within the community, advocating for more professionals in fields beyond entertainment to foster positive societal change.
T.I.’s comedic take on trap music and his insightful reflections on the industry highlight his multifaceted talents and his commitment to promoting growth and diversity within the hip-hop community.
