Nicki Minaj, often criticized for bullying, dismisses the label in a recent interview. She embraces the challenge and maintains her confidence.
In a conversation with Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1, Nicki Minaj delved into her rap persona and the distinction between her on-stage and off-stage self. The Young Money rapper, known for her unapologetic attitude, acknowledged that her music reflects her true self, while her public image involves a mix of work and play.
“You’re just getting Nicki when you hear the music,” she said “The other stuff is work and some of it is play. I mean, let’s face it. This is my fucking job. I have to have some sort of fun. If it means making fun of these hoes – why the fuck not?
Nicki Minaj acknowledged the perception of her as the ‘bad guy‘ and embraced the challenge, asserting her ability to handle it unlike her critics. She stated,“The thing is though, I’ve realized it’s like a movie. They’ve made me the bad guy so I’ve welcomed the challenge. You know why? It’s because I know I can accept that challenge. None of them can. None.”
The conversation also touched upon the criticism Nicki received from Akademiks, who referred to her as a “gangsta bully” and suggested she compete with Cardi B. Akademiks opined that Nicki’s recent behavior seemed like compensation to align herself with Cardi B’s street credibility.
While acknowledging Nicki Minaj’s undeniable talent, Akademiks expressed concern that her behavior, particularly involving her husband Kenneth Petty, might tarnish her legacy. Despite the ongoing scrutiny and criticism, Nicki Minaj remains unbothered and continues to defend her authentic self.
In the evolving landscape of rap, Nicki Minaj’s fearless approach challenges societal norms, creating a narrative that goes beyond the music itself. Her ability to navigate the complexities of fame and criticism contributes to her enduring influence in the hip-hop community.
